The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has voiced its frustration with the Election Commission, accusing it of ignoring concerns raised over the State's SIR exercise during a pre-election meeting. The party argues that ongoing Supreme Court proceedings shouldn't prevent immediate redress.
State Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, expressing dissatisfaction, challenged the EC's stance and questioned the necessity of the meeting if the SIR concerns couldn't be discussed. TMC officials, including Kolkata's Mayor Firhad Hakim, claim the exercise unfairly targets genuine Indian citizens through perceived biases.
The delegation argues that decisions potentially influenced by the BJP create false narratives of infiltrators, risking unconstitutional exclusion of voters. The TMC asserts its commitment to safeguarding citizens' constitutional rights, stressing the imperative of protecting electoral integrity.
