The simmering political battle over the Special Inclusion Revision (SIR) in West Bengal surfaced in Monday's pre-poll consultations by the Election Commission. Various political parties, including the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP, presented differing concerns about voter inclusion, election phases, and security measures.

The TMC accused the EC of harassing voters, claiming the SIR revision aimed to exclude genuine voters. Senior TMC leaders, including Chandrima Bhattacharya and Firhad Hakim, expressed dissatisfaction over the conduct of the consultations, alleging citizens were burdened with proving their nationality repeatedly.

Meanwhile, the BJP called for fewer polling phases to ensure security, accusing the state police of influencing the deployment of central forces. Despite tensions, the Election Commission reassured all parties of its commitment to conduct impartial and peaceful elections.
