The special MP/MLA court has scheduled March 12 for arguments in a 2018 defamation case against Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The case, filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra, relates to alleged derogatory remarks made by Gandhi about Amit Shah during the Karnataka elections.
Rahul Gandhi, MP for Rae Bareli, has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and stated he will present evidence to support his innocence. Claiming the case is a political vendetta, Gandhi denies using any derogatory language intended to defame others.
The trial has persisted for over five years, with Gandhi surrendering to the court earlier in 2024 after a warrant was issued for non-appearance. The court has completed cross-examinations of Mishra and witnesses, and awaits further evidence from the complainant.
