The Maharashtra legislative assembly was thrown into disarray on Tuesday when proceedings were adjourned due to the absence of a quorum. The situation sparked political controversy as the Opposition accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of neglecting public issues.
Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar voiced strong objections after it became apparent that the required number of members was not present. An important debate, initiated by the Opposition, was on the agenda but was hampered by the absence of several BJP MLAs and ministers who were attending a party meeting.
Wadettiwar argued that the lack of participation from ministers and officials for such a critical discussion highlighted significant accountability concerns. Despite directions from the Speaker and the Chief Minister, officials failed to attend the session. The proceedings were initially paused twice for 10 minutes each, and finally adjourned for the day, underscoring the prevailing tension within the assembly.
