In a fiery exchange, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of conducting a systematic campaign to destabilize India's opposition, especially targeting the Congress party. Speaking to ANI, Chaturvedi expressed deep concerns about the ruling party's alleged tactics. 'What is happening is a matter of concern: the constant flow of people leaving the Congress party,' she asserted, drawing attention to instances of cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha. Chaturvedi further claimed the BJP is exhibiting a 'talent deficit,' relying on recruits from other parties.
Her comments followed the resignation of longtime Congress member Pradyut Bordoloi, who cited internal mistreatment as a catalyst for his departure. In his resignation letter addressed to party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Bordoloi expressed 'an overwhelming sense of sadness' and noted mistreatment by the Assam Congress leadership. 'I have abandoned one of the most important principles of my life,' he lamented, describing the isolating experience that led to his decision.
This political feud unfolds as Assam braces for a pivotal election, with the BJP and Congress preparing for a high-stakes battle over Assam's 126-seat assembly. This follows a history of heated contests; in the 2021 assembly elections, the BJP-led NDA secured victory while Congress lagged. The upcoming vote will test the resilience of political allegiances and strategies in the region.
