Guwahati's political scene is abuzz as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is poised to file his nomination for the forthcoming assembly elections in Assam. On Friday, Sarma, campaigning from Jalukbari, will submit his nomination at the Kamrup (Metropolitan) District Election office.

Sarma will lead a 5.6-kilometer rally from Khanapara Veterinary Field to the Election Office in Hengrabari, energizing supporters and seeking their blessings for his bid in the #AssamElections2026. He has been winning the Jalukbari seat since 2001, eyeing a sixth term after initially losing it in 1996.

Other significant figures, including Debabrata Saikia from Nazira and Ripun Bora from Barchalla, are also scheduled to file nominations, underscoring the high stakes in this pivotal election. The last date for filing nominations is March 23, with elections set for April 9 and results to be announced on May 4.
