Controversy Looms Over Central Armed Police Forces Bill

Ruling NDA members hailed the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill on Wednesday, describing it as a crucial reform, while the opposition condemned it as discriminatory and a threat to institutional autonomy. BJP members contended that the legislation would establish uniformity across paramilitary forces including the CRPF, BSF, CISF, and ITBP.

Ghulam Ali, a BJP-aligned nominated member, highlighted disparities in promotions as a source of resentment, arguing that the Bill addresses these issues. Ajit Madhavrao credited the Modi government's political will with reducing Left Wing Extremism and improving coordination between CAPFs and state police forces.

Opposition members, however, voiced strong objections. TMC's Saket Gokhale argued the Bill would allow IPS officers to dominate leadership roles, while NCP's Fauzia Khan claimed the legislation undermines national security by imposing a uniform law over diverse forces. Critics urged for wider consultations with CAPF personnel.
