Political Firestorm in Malda: Hostage Incident Sparks BJP-TMC Row

A political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after seven judicial officers were held hostage in Malda district, leading to heated exchanges between the BJP and TMC. The incident, tied to alleged voter roll deletions, drew criticism from BJP leaders blaming Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while TMC accused BJP of conspiracy.

A significant political controversy erupted in West Bengal's Malda district as seven judicial officers, including three women, were taken hostage by local villagers on April 1. The incident, reportedly linked to alleged mass deletions from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision process, prompted sharp reactions from both the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

BJP leaders condemned the incident, with Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar pointing fingers at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the turmoil and applauding the Supreme Court for acknowledging the matter. Majumdar described the situation as a breakdown of law and order, questioning whether Banerjee's provocations led to the crisis, and urged the Election Commission to investigate the legitimacy of the voter list deletions.

Meanwhile, the TMC countered the accusations, claiming the BJP is conspiring to destabilize the region. TMC leader Mamata Banerjee alleged that the BJP aims to cancel the elections and seize control of Bengal, while the Supreme Court issued notices to state officials questioning their inaction during the hostage situation.
