Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh's Sole Capital on Fast Track to Development

In a major milestone, Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh emphasized the significance of Amaravati receiving legal status as the state's sole capital. After years of political uncertainty and multiple capitals, this development is seen as a 'homecoming' for the residents of Andhra Pradesh.

The recent passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 by both Houses of Parliament has been welcomed by the state government. Lokesh, addressing reporters, highlighted how 35,000 acres were quickly pooled by farmers to establish a new capital on the Krishna river, emphasizing the socio-cultural significance of the land.

Criticizing the former YSRCP government, Lokesh pointed out the hardships faced by farmers and women due to previous policies, affirming the current government's commitment to Amaravati's development. He assured that infrastructure projects worth Rs 50,000 crore are underway, marking a positive trajectory toward the state's growth and sustainability.
