Mamata Banerjee Condemns Bill Links as Conspiracy to Manipulate Electoral Rolls

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed on Thursday that the recent proposal to amend the women's quota law and create a delimitation commission is a 'conspiracy' designed to delete names from electoral rolls and enforce the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Speaking at a rally in Mathabhanga, Cooch Behar district, Banerjee criticized the alleged connection of these bills, calling it an attempt to divide India. Union ministers introduced three bills in Lok Sabha, including 'The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026', during debates characterized by opposition protests.

Banerjee also questioned the delayed implementation of the women's reservation bill, highlighting that 37 per cent of Trinamool Congress's Lok Sabha MPs are women. Additionally, she accused Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of distributing 'cards' in violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during her visit to Bengal.
