ActBlue Sues Texas AG Ken Paxton Over 'Unlawful' Probes

Democratic fundraising giant ActBlue has launched a legal counterattack against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, filing a lawsuit in federal court in Boston to halt what it describes as politically motivated investigations and litigation. ActBlue argues that Paxton's actions amount to unconstitutional retaliation for protected political speech.

The lawsuit emerged after Paxton, a Republican, pursued legal action against ActBlue, accusing the platform of misleading Congress and the public about its donation practices. Paxton's suit seeks to impose financial penalties and restrict ActBlue's use of gift cards for donations, claiming they facilitate fraudulent transactions from foreigners.

ActBlue's complaint labels these allegations as unfounded, asserting that its systems reject improper contributions. The nonprofit also accuses Paxton of targeting it due to its extensive fundraising support for Democratic initiatives, including for Paxton's opponent in the upcoming Senate race, James Talarico.
