In a statement on Saturday, IUML leader M K Muneer clarified that his party has not backed any Congress leader for the chief ministerial position. He addressed the media regarding IUML state president Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal's earlier remarks about Congress leader V D Satheesan leading the UDF in the Assembly election, which some interpreted as the party's endorsement.
Muneer refuted the claims and highlighted that Thangal never mentioned supporting a specific candidate for chief minister. He insisted that the decision should come from the Congress high command, which is expected to be settled swiftly after election results on May 4. Muneer added confidence in Congress's leadership capabilities.
Addressing allegations meant to instill fear of IUML's influence on a potential UDF government, Muneer pointed to efforts to link IUML with wider national hate politics. He accused critics of watching and criticizing IUML's every move. The assembly polls, he noted, saw secular votes coming together, rejecting communal narratives.
