Tensions Escalate as Israeli Airstrikes Hit Southern Lebanon
Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have claimed at least seven lives and damaged a Catholic convent, heightening tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. Despite a ceasefire, attacks persist, leading to civilian distress and international condemnation. Conflicting accounts emerge over military actions and their impact on religious sites.
In a dramatic escalation of conflict, Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of at least seven people and left others wounded. The strikes destroyed parts of a Catholic convent in the border village of Yaroun, as Israel issued fresh evacuation warnings for nine southern villages.
Despite a ceasefire in place since mid-April, hostilities between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah group have intensified. The Israeli military asserts it dismantled Hezbollah's infrastructure in Yaroun, inadvertently damaging a building later identified as a church. The Catholic Church disputes claims of military use of its properties.
A recent video released by the Israeli military showcases the destruction of Hezbollah positions, including a booby-trapped soccer stadium. As the conflict escalates, many civilians remain displaced, while efforts for peace between Lebanon and Israel continue amid ongoing warfare.
