In an unexpected development during the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, the debutant Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is leading in 73 out of the 234 contested seats, according to early trends released by the Election Commission of India. The AIADMK-led alliance follows with 60 seats, while the DMK-led coalition trails with 37 leads.

Data from the Election Commission reveals that during the second round of counting, TVK candidates are ahead by over 2,000 votes in several constituencies. In the Madavaram constituency, TVK's M L Vijayprabhu leads by a notable margin of 8,406 votes. Meanwhile, signs of disappointment are evident at the DMK's headquarters in Chennai as they fall behind their previous record of securing 133 seats.

The state is witnessing a rare triangular political showdown, with media outlets highlighting TVK's significant gains. They currently lead in 98 seats, surpassing the DMK's 62 and AIADMK's 72. Parallel to Tamil Nadu, vote counting across 823 constituencies, including those in West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry, is underway, starting with postal ballots and progressing with EVMs, as updates roll in via ECINET and the Election Commission's official platform.
