As trends begin to emerge from the 2026 Assembly polls in four states and the union territory of Puducherry, Congress leader Pawan Khera expressed confidence in the party's prospects. Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Khera emphasized that it remains too early to draw definitive conclusions, but reiterated trust in Congress and its alliance partners to perform strongly across the regions.
Khera, in an interview with ANI, conveyed that the ultimate outcome of the elections would become clearer as the day progresses. Highlighting the unpredictability of final results, he noted, "We have to wait a little longer as the situation usually clarifies by 11 or 12 PM. Nevertheless, democracy is the eventual winner and we are optimistic about our prospects in multiple states where our position is robust."
In Assam, the ruling NDA has taken a considerable early lead, with BJP leading in 32 seats and their ally AGP in 3 seats. Meanwhile, the Congress-led alliance leads in 12 seats. As counting proceeds under tight security across 52 centers, including locations like Bodoland University, and began at 08:30 am, all eyes remain fixed on the final results expected later in the day. The BJP seeks a third term, but the Congress alliance remains hopeful of turning the tide after their loss in 2016. (ANI)
