In a significant electoral battle unfolding in Assam's Nazira constituency, Debabrata Saikia, the Opposition leader, is currently trailing BJP's Mayur Borgohain. As of the latest vote count, Saikia lags by 8,875 votes.
According to the Election Commission's updates, Saikia secured 13,661 votes in the fourth round of counting, whereas Borgohain attained a substantial lead with 22,536 votes. This development marks a notable shift in a constituency long held by the Saikia family.
Having represented Nazira since 2011, Debabrata Saikia faces a stiff challenge, with the seat historically rooted as his family's bastion, first established by his father, former Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia, and his mother, Hemoprava Saikia.
