Akhil Gogoi, the charismatic leader from Raijor Dal, has once again clinched victory in the Sibsagar assembly constituency. This marks his second consecutive term, achieved by defeating the BJP's Kushal Dowari by a significant margin of 17,272 votes.

Initially, Gogoi appeared to be behind as the votes were counted. However, he ultimately garnered 86,521 votes against Dowari's 69,249 votes, according to official figures from the Election Commission.

Gogoi previously held this seat as an independent in the outgoing assembly, a notable win secured from behind bars in 2021, when he was detained on sedition charges during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in December 2019.
