Pinarayi Vijayan submitted his resignation as the Chief Minister of Kerala on Monday, concluding a significant ten-year leadership of the state. This development followed the Left Democratic Front's (LDF) severe loss in the recent Assembly elections held on April 9.
The Governor of Kerala, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, accepted Vijayan's resignation with a request for him to act as caretaker chief minister until new arrangements are established, as per a statement from Raj Bhavan.
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) achieved a substantial victory, securing 102 out of 140 seats, while the LDF, led by the CPI(M), managed to win only 35 seats. Additionally, the BJP celebrated a breakthrough by winning three seats, marking its entry into the Kerala Assembly.
