In a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal, Ratna Debnath and Rekha Patra have emerged as key figures in their fight against grievances targeted at women. Hailing from different backgrounds, but united by a common cause, these women contested vigorously against their Trinamool Congress rivals.
Ratna Debnath, who entered the political arena as a newcomer, secured a decisive win in the Panihati Assembly segment, defeating Tirthankar Ghosh by 28,836 votes. Her victory underscores her dedication to improving women's safety in the region, a focal point of her election campaign.
Meanwhile, Rekha Patra, who gained national attention through her protests, won the Hingalganj Assembly seat. Despite her earlier defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Patra's renewed political endeavor paid off, affirming her stance against the alleged injustices perpetuated by certain TMC leaders. Their success marks a critical juncture for BJP's strategy in West Bengal, as stated by state party chief Samik Bhattacharya.
