Badruddin Ajmal, the head of AIUDF, has clinched the Binnakandi assembly seat, defeating his competitor, Assam Jatiya Parishad's Rejaul Karim Choudhury, by a significant margin of 35,380 votes.

Ajmal has been a prominent figure in Assam's political landscape, first entering state politics in 2006. He contested successfully from two seats, South Salmara and Jamunamukh, during his initial foray into the assembly elections.

Ajmal shifted to national politics in 2009, becoming a three-term Lok Sabha MP for Dhubri. His tenure lasted until 2024, when he was unseated by Congress' Rakibul Hussain after a colossal defeat.
