The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) celebrated a landslide victory in Kerala’s Assembly elections, spurring accusations from KPCC Chief Sunny Joseph against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Joseph charged that Vijayan fostered a climate of violence during his tenure, urging the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) to reflect on its defeat.
Triumphing in Peravoor, Joseph emphasized the pronounced anti-incumbency sentiment, bolstered by support from "real Marxist workers," contributing to the sweeping decision of the electorate against the Left Democratic Front’s (LDF) policies. He noted that the results from the April 9 elections serve as a direct backlash against what he described as the CPI(M)’s "violent, autocratic, and arrogant" political approach.
Joseph highlighted "pre-planned murders" and attacks allegdly involving CPI(M) members as indicative of the prevailing lawlessness under Vijayan’s leadership. This, he asserted, was pivotal in swaying voters, causing a notable shift even in traditional left strongholds like Kannur. The UDF clinched 102 out of 140 seats, while the LDF won 35, and the BJP secured three seats.
