Farooq Abdullah Acknowledges Historic Election Mandates

Farooq Abdullah, the president of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), on Tuesday acknowledged the public mandate resulting from the recently concluded Assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory (UT). He expressed hope that the newly formed governments would act in the best interest of the people.

Speaking to reporters, Abdullah stated, "The decision that people have made is right in front of you. What can I do about it? New governments have come in; may Allah make them do good for the people." His comments followed elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Keralam, Assam, and Puducherry, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recorded significant victories in West Bengal and Assam, while UDF and TVK triumphed in Keralam and Tamil Nadu respectively.

The BJP's win in West Bengal, securing 206 seats, marks a historic achievement, surpassing its previous 77-seat tally in the 2021 elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised this victory as a "historic fulfilment" of the vision of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee. For the BJP, the victory is more than a political triumph; it is an embodiment of their founder's aspirations for state prosperity.
