Atul Bora Leads AGP with Renewed Vision
Atul Bora, president of the Asom Gana Parishad, was elected as the leader of its legislature party by newly elected MLAs. The AGP, a key ally of the ruling BJP, pledged support for Himanta Biswa Sarma as the next chief minister, highlighting the developmental achievements under his leadership.

Atul Bora, the president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), was unanimously elected as the leader of the AGP legislature party by the newly elected MLAs on Wednesday. The legislature, a key ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), supported the proposal of Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief minister.
During the 2026 assembly elections, the ruling BJP secured 82 out of 126 seats, while its allies, Bodoland People's Front and the AGP, garnered 10 seats each. The legislature members expressed gratitude to the electorate for their overwhelming support and paid homage to the martyrs of the Assam Agitation.
Bora retained his Bokakhat seat, with Keshab Mahanta, re-elected from Kaliabor, appointed as the deputy leader in the assembly. The AGP aims to support developmental policies under Sarma’s leadership, highlighting his achievements during the prior government.
