In a disturbing escalation of post-election violence in West Bengal, a BJP worker, Rohit Roy, was reportedly shot by alleged TMC-protected assailants in the Basirhat area of North 24 Parganas district. The incident occurred as Roy and his colleagues were placing BJP flags in their locality.
With bullet wounds to his abdomen, Roy is currently in critical but stable condition at Basirhat state hospital. The shocking incident was captured in video footage where Roy claimed he was attacked by three miscreants among a group of 8 to 10 TMC supporters. He recounted his narrow escape while receiving medical care.
This attack preceded another violent incident in the region, in which Chandranath Rath, associated with BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead in Madhyamgram. The wave of violence has sparked severe political reactions, prompting Adhikari to call for restraint and promise justice under the new government.
