Russia has reportedly ignored the proposal, continuing assaults ahead of its Victory Day events. Tensions remain high, with diplomatic warnings and civilian casualties reported amidst the conflict.
Ukraine has accused Russia of violating a proposed ceasefire, alleging continued attacks including battlefield assaults and air strikes. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy criticized Moscow's apparent rejection of peace efforts as fighting intensified.
The ceasefire proposal, initially suggested by Ukraine's leader, was put forward to coincide with Russian commemorations of its World War Two victory. However, Russia, which did not formally accept Ukraine's ceasefire proposal, reportedly committed over 1,800 breaches.
Tensions escalated with Russia planning a reduced Victory Day parade in Moscow and warning diplomatic missions of potential strikes if Ukrainian attacks occur during the celebration period. Civilian casualties also followed new strikes in Ukraine, stoking fears of further conflict.
