Chandranath Rath, an aide to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was brazenly shot dead in North 24 Parganas, igniting a significant political upheaval in West Bengal. The assassination occurred in public, with motorcycle-borne assailants intercepting Rath's vehicle at Madhyamgram's Doltala area.
The BJP blames the TMC for the targeted assassination, citing it as evidence of rampant political violence in the state. Samik Bhattacharya, the state BJP president, labeled it a "planned attack," alleging the involvement of the Trinamool Congress leadership.
In response, TMC condemned Rath's murder and demanded a court-monitored CBI probe. Both parties continue to accuse each other of political violence following the recent assembly election, as investigations into the murder proceed.
