Rubio's meeting with Pope Leo sign of 'strong' relationship, US spokesman says
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's meeting with Pope Leo at the Vatican on Thursday showed a "strong" relationship between the Holy See and the U.S., a State Department spokesman said.
Leo, the first U.S. pope, met with Rubio amid an atmosphere of tension between Washington and the Vatican following President Donald Trump's repeated attacks on the Catholic leader over the Iran war.
