Polling underway for municipal corporation polls in Haryana

Extensive arrangements have been made at polling stations to ensure that voters do not face any inconvenience during the municipal body elections in the state, officials said. Facilities such as ramps, wheelchairs, and separate queues will be ensured for such voters so that they can cast their votes without any difficulty, the officials said.

Polling is underway for the election of Mayor and ward councillors in the municipal corporations of Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat in Haryana on Sunday. Polling is also being held for the election of president and councillors in Rewari Municipal Council; and for the election of presidents and councillors in the municipal committees of Sampla in Rohtak district, Dharuhera in Rewari district, and Uklana in Hisar district. In addition, by-elections are also being held for one ward each of municipal councils and municipal committees in Tohana, Jhajjar, Rajound, Taraori, Kanina and Sadhaura. Polling for all posts, which began at 8 am, will continue till to 6 pm. The votes will be counted on May 13. The main contest in the municipal elections is expected between the Congress and the ruling party BJP. Haryana State Election Commissioner Devinder Singh Kalyan had earlier said the Commission is committed to ensure the conduct of upcoming civic elections in a free, fair and transparent manner. Extensive arrangements have been made at polling stations to ensure that voters do not face any inconvenience during the municipal body elections in the state, officials said. Clear signage, help desks, drinking water, toilets, and other basic amenities have been made available at polling stations. Special priority-based arrangements have been made for differently-abled persons, senior citizens and women. Facilities such as ramps, wheelchairs, and separate queues will be ensured for such voters so that they can cast their votes without any difficulty, the officials said. Also, special arrangements have been made at polling stations where heavy crowds are expected. Additional staff, vehicle availability, and assistance from NCC and NSS volunteers will be utilised to ensure smooth management of queues.
