The crucial floor test proceedings to validate the majority of the C Joseph Vijay-led TVK government unfolded in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Wednesday. Initiated by Chief Minister Vijay, the session aimed to bolster his leadership through a confidence vote resolution.
The floor leaders of respective parties were given the opportunity to express their positions first. Congress, CPI, CPI (M), VCK, and IUML voiced unequivocal support for the ruling government, contrasting with the BJP which adopted a neutral stance. Meanwhile, PMK chose to abstain from the vote entirely.
The test, prompted by Governor RV Arlekar's directive to conduct it by May 13, revealed intricate political dynamics. The ruling TVK, holding nominal strength with alliances, faced challenges from AIADMK factions. While a group led by senior leaders SP Velumani and C Ve Shanmugam declared support, the faction loyal to Edappadi K Palaniswami opposed, hinting at potential anti-defection consequences for rebellious members.
