Amid mounting tensions, Congress leader Shahnawaz Choudhary has publicly urged the party's high command to reevaluate its alliance with the National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir. This call comes amid accusations of repeated betrayals and violations of coalition agreements.
Choudhary, who presides as the District Congress Committee president in Poonch, expressed concerns that despite promises during and after elections, a coordination committee remains unformed, sidelining the Congress significantly. He specifically points to a 'safe Rajya Sabha seat' that was assured to Congress as part of the political understanding, yet the NC allegedly reneged on this promise.
In a recent Congress gathering, district presidents uniformly highlighted issues regarding the NC's political conduct, leading to calls for a reassessment of the alliance by the Congress high command. The missing support from NC in Congress's statehood restoration campaigns has further fueled these concerns.
