Fuel Fury: Trinamool Congress Slams Price Hike

On Friday, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government over the recent hike in petrol and diesel prices. He described the increase as a post-election betrayal, alleging that voters were first 'looted' and then 'kicked where it hurts.'
O'Brien took to social media to question the BJP, which governs both the Centre and West Bengal, asking if the state now plans to reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel. This query arises amid newfound alignments in state and central leadership, eliminating concerns about blocked funds.
The Rs 3 per litre increase marks the first price hike in over four years, coming just after assembly elections in four states. The delay in price adjustment, despite rising global crude costs, was noted as strategically aligned with recent electoral proceedings.
