NCP leader Jayant Patil has made a fervent appeal to the Maharashtra government, urging it to offer financial assistance to beleaguered onion farmers. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Patil emphasized the urgent need for a guaranteed price and subsidies to counteract the impact of declining onion prices.
The legislator highlighted the severe financial crisis affecting farmers in key districts like Nashik, Pune, and Solapur. Current market prices for onions have plummeted beneath production costs, which have soared due to increased expenditure on essential inputs like seeds and labor.
Patil further advocated for robust procurement efforts by government agencies and a review of export policies. He also proposed subsidies for modern storage facilities and the availability of affordable quality seeds.
