Himachal Pradesh finds itself embroiled in controversy as accusations arise over its handling of the Panchayati Raj elections. State BJP media convenor Karan Nanda has raised serious allegations against the ruling Congress party, claiming manipulative practices designed to disenfranchise Scheduled Caste women.
At the heart of the issue is a notification issued by the Panchayati Raj Department that allegedly prevents SC women, married into Himachal Pradesh from other states, from running in the elections. Nanda argues that this decision runs contrary to democratic principles and women's empowerment.
The complications have been brought to light through the specific case of Anurani, an SC woman originally from Haryana, whose nomination was dismissed despite her legitimate residency and credentials. Although legal efforts by the BJP to challenge the decision in court have been delayed, the party promises continued persistence in the fight for justice.
