V D Satheesan was sworn in as Chief Minister of Kerala on Monday, marking a fresh leadership phase for the United Democratic Front (UDF) after their electoral victory. Twenty ministers took their oaths alongside Satheesan at Central Stadium, with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presiding over the ceremony.
The new Cabinet is notable for its blend of seasoned politicians and newcomers, including Satheesan, who has never held a government position before. The diverse group includes two women and two members of the Scheduled Caste community, indicating a broad social representation. Congress will manage 11 of the total portfolios, while the IUML claims five.
Among the standout figures is Ramesh Chennithala, who is poised for the Home and Vigilance portfolios. P K Kunhalikutty is expected to oversee Industries.
