Jahangir Khan, the TMC candidate for Falta, has sought judicial protection after alleging a slew of criminal cases against him. His legal team filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court on Monday to prevent coercive police actions.
Kishore Dutta, representing Khan, requested an urgent hearing and revelation of all FIRs lodged against his client. The plea is situated within the context of heightened political tensions in the Falta assembly constituency, where a repoll is scheduled for May 21.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya expressed readiness to hear the matter later in the day. The original polling, held on April 29, was marred by accusations of widespread fraud, prompting the need for a repoll in the South 24 Parganas district.
