Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday inspected a polling booth in Harshil, a border village in the Gangotri Assembly constituency of Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district. It is located adjacent to the India-China border.
Kumar, who arrived in Uttarakhand for a two-day visit to review preparations for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, held a detailed interaction with Mintu Devi, the Booth Level Officer (BLO) for Harshil and sought information regarding the SIR mapping process.
He praised the work done by Mintu Devi, saying that she is an inspiration for the entire country. He added that the Election Commission salutes all BLOs who are dedicatedly engaged in the SIR exercise. He expressed hope that all BLOs across the nation would perform their duties in a similar manner.
Kumar also visited Gangotri, a special polling booth designated specifically for sadhus, where he interacted with them. He expressed his gratitude to them for participating enthusiastically in the country's ''festival of democracy,'' despite the challenging terrain and biting cold conditions.
He remarked that the polling booth is unique as 100 per cent of its registered voters are sadhus. This, he said, stands as a testament to the diversity and strength of our democratic system.
