The Manipur Congress has voiced strong criticism against the BJP-led governments at both the national and state levels for their perceived inaction during the recent hostage crisis involving armed groups. This follows the abduction of over 38 individuals in the state.
During an event commemorating Jawaharlal Nehru's 62nd death anniversary, state Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh highlighted the government's failure to uphold the rule of law. He demanded immediate rescue efforts for those still held captive and questioned the political silence, suggesting a possible hidden agenda.
The situation intensified following the ambush and killing of three church leaders on May 13. Although 31 hostages, including women and members of the Naga and Kuki communities, have been released, others remain missing.
Authorities, led by police chief Rajiv Singh, confirm ongoing operations to locate the remaining captives. Meanwhile, four suspects have been detained in connection to the abductions, while discussions continue with hostage-takers.
Singh further criticized the BJP's focus on elections, accusing them of neglecting pressing national issues, and highlighted Nehru's efforts to foster international diplomacy during his tenure.
