On Wednesday, Congress MLA Ashok Pattan intensified talks of a possible leadership shift in Karnataka, suggesting that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar might soon assume the role of chief minister. He indicated that a shake-up within the Cabinet could replace 15 to 20 ministers to include new talents.
Asserting that the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) would elect a new leader without a vote, Pattan dismissed the likelihood of any contest during the decision-making meeting. He mentioned that the identity of the new chief minister could be revealed within two days, suggesting that Shivakumar commands widespread support.
Highlighting the inevitability of change, Pattan expressed confidence that the existing party leadership would accommodate newcomers, emphasizing that such Cabinet adjustments are crucial for encouraging fresh aspirants. He also clarified that any resignation by the current Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would not be unexpected within the Congress party.
