Siddaramaiah has stepped down from the role of Karnataka's Chief Minister, following instructions from the Congress party's high command. He announced his resignation at a press conference, citing the directive received two days prior.
Expressing gratitude towards Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi for his tenure, Siddaramaiah highlighted his readiness to comply with the party's decisions. D K Shivakumar, the deputy and state president of the party, is poised to take over the leadership in Karnataka amidst ongoing speculation of a rotational chief minister formula that remains unconfirmed.
The change in leadership follows a recent assembly election victory, and Siddaramaiah has been reportedly offered a central role in the party, including a possible Rajya Sabha seat, though no decision has been reached.
While Siddaramaiah's followers protested his departure in various regions, celebrations erupted at Shivakumar's residence, reflecting the mixed reactions to this political transition.
