S Jothimani, a Congress MP, has raised serious allegations regarding the party's candidate selection process for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. She claims there were 'massive irregularities' in allocating constituencies and selecting candidates for the polls scheduled on April 23.
Jothimani describes the selection process as skewed towards individuals with questionable electoral prospects, leaving out seasoned and promising party members. This bias, she argues, has resulted in newcomers receiving undue opportunities, with some leaving the party shortly after acceptance. She calls for accountability, questioning, 'On what basis were they selected?'
Jothimani criticized internal investigations, asserting that an examination into anti-party activities during elections is insufficient without addressing constituency allocation issues. She called for a thorough probe by the All India Congress Committee, highlighting that Tamil Nadu's committee lacks authority for self-inquiry.
Addressing larger repercussions, she noted that such lapses have continuously marred state elections, potentially contributing to electoral losses. Jothimani stressed the need for internal reforms in Tamil Nadu to bolster the party against the BJP and Narendra Modi, underlining the importance of grassroots voices and transparency within the party.
