France Summons Russian Ambassador Over Drone Incident in Romania
France has summoned Russia's ambassador to explain a drone attack on a Romanian apartment. Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot condemned the strike as irresponsible, highlighting ongoing security concerns as Russian drones repeatedly violate European Union and NATO airspace. Discussions are planned with Romania and NATO on future security measures.
France has promptly summoned the Russian ambassador to provide an explanation following a drone incident that targeted an apartment building in Romania, according to Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot. He condemned the act as irresponsible and part of a troubling pattern.
This week, Barrot had already called upon the Russian envoy after civilian-targeted airstrikes in Ukraine. 'What we see is an irresponsible act involving a drone, not an isolated occurrence,' Barrot stated during an interview with France Inter radio. He cited previous instances of Russian drones and aircraft entering European Union and NATO airspace.
Standing as NATO's lead nation in Romania, France has stationed around 1,500 troops there, reinforcing the alliance's defense posture. Barrot noted that discussions will be undertaken soon with Romania and NATO to evaluate and respond to this security threat.
