T U Kuruvila, a prominent figure in Kerala's political landscape and former vice-chairman of the Kerala Congress (Joseph), passed away in a private hospital. He was 89 years old and had been receiving extended care for age-related health issues.
Kuruvila held the position of Public Works Minister during the V S Achuthanandan administration, representing the Kothamangalam constituency from 2006 to 2011. Throughout his career, he remained a dedicated supporter of P J Joseph and was an influential member of the Kerala Congress.
Apart from his legislative career, Kuruvila contributed to the community as a member of the Rubber Board and chairman of the state's Housing Board. Chief Minister V D Satheesan praised Kuruvila for his unwavering allegiance to the Kerala Congress and his rise from local governance to ministerial ranks.
Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan acknowledged Kuruvila's distinctive contributions to public service and his connection with the people through his extensive political journey. His passing marks a significant loss in the state's political fraternity.
