Himachal Parish Elections Experience Strong Voter Engagement Despite Weather Challenges

The final phase of Himachal Pradesh panchayat elections saw a 19.26% turnout by 9 am amid challenging weather, with Sirmaur recording the highest turnout. Voting will continue until 3 pm, with results expected soon for gram panchayats.

Despite heavy rains and stormy conditions across Himachal Pradesh, the panchayat elections' final phase registered a voting turnout of 19.26% by 9 am. Polls opened early at 7 am, and Sirmaur district witnessed the highest engagement with a 23.60% turnout, whereas Lahaul and Spiti had the lowest at 16.23%.

Voting is proceeding without any reported disturbances across 1,189 gram panchayats. Over 15 lakh eligible voters will make use of ballot papers, as political symbols are absent this election. The voting process will conclude at 3 pm, paving the way for immediate counting and declaration of results for gram panchayats, pradhans, and up-pradhans, with remaining results to be announced on May 31.

This three-phase election will see approximately 50.89 lakh voters elect 31,182 representatives, including 3,754 pradhans and up-pradhans, across the state’s local governance bodies. Forecasts predict continued wet weather till June 4, as polling progresses smoothly.
