D K Shivakumar is poised to lead Karnataka as its new chief minister after being elected as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party. This decision was made during a meeting at the Vidhan Soudha, attended by senior Congress figures including Siddaramaiah, the outgoing chief minister, who proposed Shivakumar's name.
Shivakumar's ascension was confirmed after a brief recess in the meeting, and the decision was unanimously supported by the party legislators. He will take oath on June 3, succeeding Siddaramaiah, whose resignation was accepted earlier by the governor. Shivakumar previously served as deputy chief minister.
