The Assam Cabinet is poised for an expansion on June 5, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced, without revealing the identities or number of new ministers. This development follows his induction as Chief Minister for a successive term on May 12, in a ceremony attended by high-profile dignitaries including Narendra Modi.

The recent swearing-in on May 12 saw BJP's Ajanta Neog and Rameswar Teli, AGP's Atul Bora, and BPF's Charan Boro taking oath. Sarma confirmed the planned expansion via a social media post but left details unspecified. The BJP-led alliance, securing dominance with 102 out of 126 seats, remains at the helm as Sarma and his allies prepare for the new appointments.

Among the officials, Bora handles border protection and rural development while Neog steers tourism and child welfare. Teli focuses on labor welfare and tribal affairs, and Boro oversees transport and welfare of Bodoland. Other departments are managed by Sarma himself.
