In a significant political development, former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee strongly criticized the creation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Monday. The team is set to investigate the alleged forgery related to the nomination of the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly.
Chatterjee raised questions about the police's involvement in legislative issues, deeming it 'improper' and without precedent in Indian political history. He argued that the police's role is not within the bounds of parliamentary affairs.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has appointed a five-member SIT, led by a Deputy Inspector General, for an in-depth probe. The controversy intensified as Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari criticized TMC leadership, while the Assembly Speaker continues to assess the situation.
