The West Bengal government has officially introduced a free bus travel initiative for women across the state. Starting Monday, all state-operated buses will offer complimentary rides for women, fulfilling a major election promise from the BJP's 'Oath of Trust' campaign.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, emphasizing this milestone on his social media, noted that the scheme stems from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of empowering women nationwide. The scheme is expected to alleviate daily travel expenses significantly for women in the state.
To implement the project effectively, a notification from the Transport Department outlines the issuance of Smart Cards, equipped with QR codes, to female beneficiaries. This card will enable seamless travel across both short and long routes in various categories of state-run buses.
