In a noteworthy development, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) declared it would withdraw from the anticipated INDIA alliance meeting in New Delhi on June 8, given the strained relationship with the Congress party. The meeting is set to include Congress, a party DMK accuses of betraying it by supporting TVK after the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, despite being an ally in the polls.

DMK spokespersons expressed profound disappointment among party loyalists over Congress's unexpected move, which they deemed a betrayal following the legislative elections. The DMK steadfastly supports its cadre's sentiments, refusing to partake in an assembly involving Congress representation, further signifying a strain in their long-standing alliance.

While opting out of this pivotal discussion, the DMK assured its continued advocacy on national welfare issues alongside other political factions. The DMK-led coalition suffered a defeat in the Tamil Nadu elections, where TVK emerged as the majority with 108 seats, winning Congress's support to form a government. Alongside this, DMK has sought separate seating in the Lok Sabha, signaling a shift from its association with the Congress.
