Tragedy in Lebanon: UN Peacekeeper Fatality Amid Renewed Conflict

A Serbian U.N. peacekeeper was tragically killed when mortar shells struck his position near Marjayoun, southeastern Lebanon. This marks the seventh peacekeeper death in Lebanon since the resurgence of hostilities in March.
The U.N. confirmed that two additional peacekeepers, one from El Salvador and another from Spain, sustained injuries. The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, reignited on March 2, remains tense.
Sergeant Milovan Jovanovic, a Serbian national from the 27th Mechanized Battalion, was identified as the deceased by U.N. spokesperson Stephane Dujarric. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack, urging accountability as it violates international humanitarian law. The incident is currently under U.N. investigation.
