Rising Demand for Repatriation as Xenophobic Tensions Escalate
Over a thousand Nigerians have expressed a desire to return home from South Africa amid increased xenophobic attacks. This number has surged from the initial 130, and a joint screening process is being conducted to ascertain eligibility for repatriation, according to the Nigerian foreign ministry spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.
The number of Nigerians seeking voluntary repatriation from South Africa has skyrocketed as xenophobic violence intensifies. Over 1,094 individuals have now registered their interest compared to just 130 previously.
A joint screening process is currently underway to assess the eligibility of these applicants, according to Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for Nigeria's foreign ministry.
The rise in repatriation requests underscores the gravity of the situation, placing a spotlight on the ongoing xenophobic tensions in South Africa.
